New York Man’s Freezer Snack Turns Out to Be a Big Mistake: ‘You Have To Call The Doctor’
A man in New York had his mother shocked after he admitted to her that he had made a huge mistake and eaten something that he definitely shouldn’t have from her freezer. Briana Koutros revealed that her brother ate what he thought was an ice pop out of the freezer, but was surprised to find that it was actually an ice pack.
The entire thing was caught on camera and shared to Briana’s TikTok account, @brianakoutros. The video starts with Briana’s brother standing in the kitchen with the freezer open and holding the blue ice pack in his hands. He wears a white t-shirt and matching shorts, while looking a bit confused.
New York Man Mistakes Ice Pack for a Popsicle
Meanwhile, their mother, wearing a khaki sweater and glasses, stands in front of him with her jaw dropped. She takes in the scene and after processing what had happened she finally responds. “You have to call the doctor,” she says as her son chuckles over the situation.
“You ate the whole thing!” she said very concerned before asking the question on everyone’s mind. “How did it taste?” Laughter rings out again when she jokingly asks her son if he’s stupid. “How does this not look like ice pops?” he says as he holds up the ice pack and defends his actions to his mother.
A Sweet Tooth Leads to a Very Cold Mistake
Of course, TikTok wanted to know if the New York man had any medical problems following the ingestion of the ice pack. “Is he still with us?” one person asked. “He’s alive and well,” Briana responded. “In his defense it do look like ice pops,” another commented. “He just wanted a sweet treat,” Briana joked again in the comment section.
Even the NFL team the LA Chargers slid into the comment section to ask if her brother called the doctor. “No 😭😭 he’s a jets fan so he can survive anything,” Briana responded.
Is Swallowing Ice Pack Gel Actually Dangerous?
Despite his mom’s panic, Briana’s brother is probably going to be just fine. According to the National Capital Poison Center, the gel found in most reusable ice packs is non-toxic, typically made from a polymer or cellulose, and accidentally swallowing some usually causes nothing more than minor mouth irritation or an upset stomach.
That said, poison control experts do note that some single-use “instant” ice packs contain different chemicals that can be more concerning if ingested in larger amounts, so it’s always worth double-checking the type of ice pack involved and calling poison control if there’s any doubt.
Sweet tooth or not, it looks like this was one freezer mishap that turned out to be more funny than dangerous. Next time, the New York man will likely pay closer attention to what he’s eating out of his mother’s freezer.
