Texas Teacher Added Something to Her Classroom You Won’t See Anywhere Else: ‘Let’s Make This A Thing’
An elementary school teacher in Houston, Texas is adding something to her classroom that you won’t see in many schools. Of course, she’s sharing it all online, and the internet had a huge response after seeing one specific corner of her classroom and what its use will be throughout the year.
The Texas teacher revealed via her TikTok account @valecia100 that one corner of her classroom near a shelf with bins and books has been assigned for students to pass gas. The hilarious teacher deemed the space the “fart corner” and even provided her students with some air freshener spray to use.
“This is our fart corner,” she tells the kids in the video. “If you need to fart, simply come over here, fart, take about 10 seconds, get you a little spray going on, go sit down.” She adds, “Nobody’s paying attention. Nobody cares, nobody’s worried about it.”
Teacher’s Unusual Classroom Addition Goes Viral
In a follow-up video, the teacher reveals that she renamed the space the “gas station” after a suggestion from one of her viewers. She also gushed over the number of viewers her funny video earned, and admitted that she came up with the idea because her students are unafraid to pass gas all over the school.
Of course, the internet had a lot to say about the teacher’s idea. “Jokes aside, this is a good idea because as a kid, holding in farts can cause many stomach problems, especially kids with sensitive intestines,” one person said. “I want one at work. Let’s make this a thing!!!” another commented. “Maybe just an idea: put the pencil sharpener in that corner. A really loud electric one,” a third person suggested.
Is Holding In Gas Harmful For Your Body?
According to Hackensack Meridian Health, holding in gas can be painful and cause issues in the body. It’s not considered harmful, but it can be very uncomfortable.
“Gas that is not passed will be absorbed by the bloodstream and ultimately breathed out by the lungs,” says Rosario Ligresti, M.D. “Holding gas in can be uncomfortable due to intestinal distension, leading to bloating or nausea. However, it ultimately is not harmful—but also not recommended.”
So although the students in this particular Texas classroom may not become ill if they hold in their gas, it seems they don’t have to worry about it thanks to their unconventional teacher.
