Arkansas Woman Can’t Believe What Her DoorDasher Said About Her Tip: ‘Blows My Mind’
There are some night when you just don’t want to cook dinner, and it’s easier to order in and relax. A woman in Arkansas decided to order DoorDash for dinner. However, what should have been an easy delivery and quiet handoff from her driver turned into something dramatic and confusing for the customer.
According to the Arkansas woman, she was verbally confronted by her DoorDash driver when she met them outside to grab her food. In a TikTok video posted to the account @nicolebreaksitdown, the woman says that she walked outside to meet her delivery driver and take her food.
However, the DoorDasher had other ideas. When the customer greeted her warmly, she claims the driver looked at her and immediately said, “How much did you tip?” The woman says she was taken aback by the question and revealed that she had selected the option to tip whatever 20 percent of her order was.
The driver allegedly continued to press her about the amount of the tip, with the customer claiming she didn’t know what 20 percent of the order came out to be. At first, the woman was confused and thought that perhaps the tip didn’t go through. However, she quickly learned that wasn’t the case.
Arkansas Woman’s DoorDash Order Takes an Awkward Turn
After the driver checked her phone and realized that the customer had tipped her $6 for the delivery, she was unhappy. “She said ‘that is not enough,'” the woman explained. The driver then reportedly told the woman that she drove too far to deliver the food for only a $6 tip, telling her that she should “tip more.”
The woman then revealed that the driver stared at her, seemingly expecting her to give her an additional tip. However, the customer refused, took her food, and thanked the driver for the delivery. Now, she’s asking social media if she was in the wrong.
“I don’t know how to process this,” she says into the camera. “I know tipping culture is out of control, but am I really in the wrong here? This whole thing just blows my mind,” she added.
Meanwhile, her viewers weighed in on the situation, and many were on the Arkansas woman’s side. “I would have called customer support and canceled the tip,” one person wrote in the comments. “This is why I do contactless delivery,” said another. “I’ve been a DoorDash driver before and six dollars is an average tip. I don’t think you did anything wrong,” a third person chimed in.
How DoorDash Pay Actually Works
According to the DoorDash website, a delivery driver earns a base pay along with the tips. “Base pay is DoorDash’s base contribution for each offer. This will range from $2-10+ when a Dasher chooses to earn per offer, depending on the estimated time, distance, and desirability of the offer,” the site reveals.
Dashers also get to see information that allows them to know the minimum guaranteed amount they will earn for their delivery and choose to accept it or leave it.
Whether tipping culture is truly ‘out of control’ or not, most viewers seemed to agree on one thing: a $6 tip on delivery shouldn’t come with a confrontation.
